Where do the Respondents come from?

Responses came from a wide range of countries. Despite the fact that there were rather few responses in total, there is a very satisfactory spread across the countries of the world. This is strong evidence that interest in BSP and BSPlib is not confined to a single geographic region or language. In other words, BSP Worldwide is an accurate description of the Association.

Are the Respondents using Large Supercomputers or Networks of Workstations?

We wanted to discover whether there was any strong weighting in the responses between users with access to large, special purpose supercomputers, and those with networks of workstations. It looks from the results in the chart that users of Cray T3x, IBM SP2, HP/Convex Exemplar and Dec Alpha shared memory systems (26) are approximately balanced by those with workstation systems (25). There should therefore be no bias in the results towards either of these modes of working.

How up-to-date is respondent's knowledge of Oxford BSPlib Implementation?

As the chart shows, the large majority of respondents had installed recent versions of BSPlib. Almost half had installed the latest Version 1.3 which was released on 27 November 1997, only two to three months before the questionnaire was returned. The replies are obviously weighted towards those with knowledge of recent implementations.
